MIDDELBURG – Two men arrested after police allegedly seized 204kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R1.2 million on the N4 near Middelburg have been remanded in custody following their appearance in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court.
Ntethelelo Hlatshwayo (42) and Dumisani Langwenya (47) appeared in court on 22 July 2026 on a charge of possession of dagga. The case was postponed to 27 July 2026 for further investigation, and the pair remain in custody after bail was not granted.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), members of the Ermelo K9 Unit acted on intelligence received on 21 July 2026 about a bakkie allegedly transporting dagga along the N4 near Middelburg.
Police said officers located the vehicle, stopped and searched it, and allegedly found approximately 204kg of dagga wrapped in sellotape.
The bakkie allegedly used to transport the drugs was confiscated as part of the investigation.
The suspects were arrested at the scene and charged with possession of dagga.
The matter was postponed to 27 July 2026, when Hlatshwayo and Langwenya are expected to return to the Middelburg Magistrate's Court as investigations continue.
